REX hosts Schoology CONNECT PH 2019

In an age fueled by the constant and instant consumption of media over social networks, it’s easy to think that education would take the backseat when it comes to innovation. With the advent of mobile computing and our increasingly connected lives as digital citizens, how can technology help transform how we learn and teach, as a community?

These ideas and other pressing questions were just some of what participants to Schoology CONNECT PH 2019 tackled. Held at Novotel Manila Araneta Center, the two-day conference hosted thought leaders and holistic learning practitioners from around the country.

The first day saw four parallel breakout sessions with four speakers for each session. The sessions included presentation on such topics as innovative instructional practices, digital migration, new transitions and integrations with emerging educational technologies (EduTech), digital citizenship and empowerment, user engagement strategies, blended learning, new insights on student assessment, as well as collective reflections on educators’ perspective about EduTech and how it shapes their practices.

The second day of the conference showcased a round-table discussion about best practices in classroom teaching with a learning management system (LMS) called Schoology, one of the learning solutions provided by REX to local schools.

During the conference, two keynote speeches were given to help put the event in perspective, with Tim Trinidad presenting his paper titled “Personalized Learning: A Game Changer for 21st Century Education” for the first day, and Global EduTech Leadership Awardee Emie Baylon presenting “Teaching the Holistic Child Through Technology” for the second day.

Schoology began life in the classroom, a project started in 2009 by its founders when they saw how education technology at the time was falling short of its goal to improve learning experiences.

“We don’t just want to digitize existing pedagogies. We are creating solutions that allow teachers to use technology to easily move to more advanced strategies — such as personalized learning,” shared Schoology co-founder and Engineering Lead, Tim Trinidad.

As a platform, Schoology helps young learners and education professionals connect and collaborate, helping each other by forming a digital learning community that aims to personalize the learning process through a holistic approach.
